Brief History of OCAS……..

Old cadets Association of Sylhet (OCAS) was formed on 06 August 1982. The voice that announced for the first time a necessity of the ex-cadets association for Sylhet was the contemporary Vice Principal ‘Mr. Abdullah Al Amin’ who proposed the name ‘OCAS’ on the passing out day of 1st batch of Sylhet Cadet College. Initially OCAS office was the residence of Ashfaqe Ahmed who was the President during that period. In 1986 at ICMA auditorium OCAS had its first formal Annual General Meeting where renowned journalist Mr Obaidul Haq performed. OCAS published its first formal little magazine titled ‘জাগিয়া উঠিল প্রাণ’’ on 21st February.
The 1st reunion of OCAS was held in 1990 and the chief guest was former Vice President Mr. Maudud Ahmed. For the tenure of 1991-92, the OCAS President and General Secretary were Asaf Baig (1st batch) and Naser Khan (4th batch), respectively. At that time OCAS assisted a few poor students financially, helped flood victims and published 2nd little magazine  “ফিরে ফিরে আসি" on 21st February again. For 1993-94 period, the OCAS President and General Secretary were Nayeem Asfaque (4th batch) and Arifur Rahman (8th batch), respectively.

In 1994 the 2nd Reunion of OCAS was held and Mr. Nazmul Huda was the Chief Guest of 2nd Reunion. G M Quadery (5th batch) and Mijanur Rahman (8th batch) were elected President and General Secretary of OCAS respectively for 1995-96. This committee took some steps to recognize OCAS.

# A new office was taken in Nakhalpara in early 2003.
# In 2005 OCAS shifted its office to Shahbag and until December 2007 OCAS office was there.

Presently OCAS office is in Suite no 404/A(9th fl), Shahara Tropical Center (Adjacent to BATA signal), Elephant Road, Dhaka

The 4th reunion of OCAS was held in December 2004 and Chief Guest was the Minister for Finance and Planning Mr. M Saifur rahman. For the tenure of February 2002 to February 2004, OCAS President and General Secretary elected are Abdullah Al Mamun (4th batch) and Mustafa Mamun (12th batch) respectively.

From August 2006 to August 2008 OCAS President and General Secretary are Major(Retd) M Shakhawat Hossain (1st batch) and Mustafa Mamun (12th batch).
In November 2007 the 5th Reunion of OCAS was held and Chief Guest was the Advisor Mrs Geeti Ara Shafia Chowdhury.

From the very beginning till to date, the members who contributed in OCAS deserve profound regards from the current EX; Lest some names should missed unintentionally, all the names are not mentioned who worked hard for the OCAS. All of them deserve recognition from the present Executive Committee and indeed, it does. OCAS has passed a long way. Now it is the time for juvenile-energetic youth who are working hard and making the ground for the future committees to give it a mature shape like other successful ex-cadet associations.
